Location

In the Heart of Sunriver, Steps from the Village

Chalet Des Chutes sits along the Deschutes River, just 20 minutes south of Bend in Central Oregon’s beautiful high desert climate. Our location is unique: tucked on a quiet cul-de-sac, with the Village’s shops and restaurants a three-minute walk away, and SHARC’s pools and water slides just a bike ride or short drive from the front door.

From the driveway, 40+ miles of paved bike paths wind through the pines to the river, the marina, and Benham Falls. Head West and you’re at Mt. Bachelor’s lifts in about twenty minutes.

What’s Nearby

Close to Everything

The short list of places we send every guest. Want the full local rundown: where we actually eat, float, and hike? It’s all in our Sunriver guide.

A 3-minute walk

The Village at Sunriver

Three minutes from the front door. Restaurants, shops, and coffee: close enough to stroll over for breakfast, and again for ice cream after dinner.

A 20-minute walk, 5 by bike

SHARC

Sunriver’s aquatic and recreation center: indoor and outdoor pools, a lazy river, water slides, and hot tubs. Six passes come with the cabin. Walk over whenever.

Under 10 minutes by bike

Fort Rock Park Pickleball

Eighteen pickleball courts plus fields and playgrounds. Court time is free with the SHARC passes included in your stay. Courts can be reserved up to three days ahead May through September.

Bike or short drive

Deschutes River at Harper Bridge

Put in at Harper Bridge for the classic 3–5 hour float to the Sunriver takeout, or try the Besson day-use horseshoe: our favorite hidden gem.

Ride from the door

Benham Falls Trail

The paved Deschutes River Trail runs from Sunriver out to the falls: roughly 10–12 miles round trip of easy, scenic riding. The bikes are on us.

About 20 minutes

Mt. Bachelor

Northwest powder without a long mountain drive. Ski or ride all day and still be back in the hot tub by dusk.

About 20 minutes

Bend

Breweries, restaurants, and the Old Mill District: an easy evening out, with a quiet cabin among the pines to come home to.

A short drive

High Desert Museum

Otters, birds of prey, regional-history exhibits, and forested paths: a favorite with kids, rain or shine.

A short drive · May–Sept

Lava River Cave

Walk a lava tube under the high desert. Open May through September; reserve a timed entry with the Forest Service before you go.

Getting Here

Planes, Passes & Pine-Lined Roads

Sunriver is an easy trip from either direction: fly into Redmond or road-trip down from Portland. Aim for 57063 Deer Ln #9, Sunriver, OR 97707; your booking confirmation adds the door code and parking notes.

Flying In: Redmond (RDM)

Roberts Field in Redmond is the closest airport. Four ways to cover the last stretch:

  • Rental car: $50–75/day; the most flexible, and our recommendation for ski trips.
  • Shuttle: $80–100 with Modus Transportation or Enviro Shuttle; book ahead.
  • Rideshare: typically $110–140 to Sunriver.
  • On a budget: a $13 daily bus stops at the Shell station about a mile from the cabin.

Driving from Portland

About 3.5 hours: take I-5 S, then US-97 S through Central Oregon to the Sunriver exit. The last hour is the pretty part: ponderosa forest, lava buttes, and Cascade views. Time it right and you’ll roll in just as the hot tub calls.

Winter Driving (Nov–Mar)

Snow is part of the charm. Plan for it. From November through March we recommend an AWD or 4WD vehicle, and always carry chains. Sunriver’s roads are well maintained, but high-desert storms move fast; check conditions before mountain drives.

When You Arrive

Self check-in via smart lock any time from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM: no key pickup, no waiting around. The carport fits three vehicles (street parking isn’t allowed in Sunriver). Details for check-in, wifi, and our full digital guidebook arrive with your booking.
